Rebecca sent a message to John Martin CEO, Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. email address that said:
I do not know you, but I do know a little about you, and I ask that you hear what I am trying to communicate with an open mind. I am writing you to try to understand your decision to request NC to repeal HB2. I understand transgender concerns, but do you understand my concerns as a heterosexual female, do they not matter? If there was a bathroom designated for transgenders would that solve the issue? Iâm not sure that it would for those arguing the validity of this law. Please, help me understand why it does not matter if I feel comfortable going into a restroom with an anatomically defined male. Do I not have a voice or is it because I do not agree I therefore âhate"? I would suggest that I do not hate, but rather, I simply do not agree. Agreement is not synonymous with love or hate. Are you haters of those who do not agree with you, or to this point, do not feel comfortable using the same bathroom with members of the opposite sex? I would not label you that way, but I would argue to say that many would label me that way. I guess my concern is that companies are wielding their big guns of capitalism and power to get their way. If you are truly concerned about ALL involved, instead of âthreateningâ our state by putting your companyâs name on a "listâ (https://www.yahoo.com/news/latest-christian-legal-aid-firm-offers-defend-nc-202403818.html) why not suggest ways to benefit ALL concerned. We do not all have to agree, and just because we do not agree does not mean we hate one another or that there is not a fair solution for all. I implore each of you to use your platforms most wisely. Offer solutions and not threats (which to me feels like reverse discrimination). Try to be a part of the unification of ALL the people who use your products and services and not just another company driving a deeper wedge of division in our country. Why canât empathy be felt for all, and by all I include everyone not just those we agree with. I am not debating whether this piece of legislation is based on morality as so many people want to suggest, that it is some form of a bigoted, Christian agenda. Whether you are Christian, Muslim, Jew, Catholic, Atheist, etc. it doesnât matter, but it does matter if one does not feel comfortable when using a public restroom (LGBTQ or not). It is easy to add your name to a list, be bigger than that, add your name to a list that says I (we) understand how each group feels - make a true differenceâ¦Offer solutions. Thank you for all the wonderful products and services you have given the world and thank you for considering my thoughts on this topic.
Sincerely,
Rebecca
