I have been extremely distraught since leaving your hotel, The Courtyard Times Square at 114 W 40th Street, NY, NY, Room 2607, on July 16th.
I arrived on Thursday that week July 13th. With my 14-year-old daughter to extend a trip she took with her theatre group for a Broadway workshop. We arrived around 1:00 and we were extremely excited about our remaining week seeing Broadway shows together for an early birthday gift. Thursday night, I had tickets to Hamilton that was obviously an important event for us. We started to get ready for our big night around 4:00 when my daughter went into the bathroom to dress and get ready, thankfully. I had closed the 2 layers of drapes to cover the window and began undressing. When I was fully undressed I looked up into the mirror right in front of me, and was shocked, frightened and mortified to come face to face with a man. I looked behind me thinking there was someone in my room. The man covered his eyes and put his head down to the side of him on a desk. It took me a couple of minutes to figure out where he was and discovered looking out the window, that his office and desk/computer were right next door to my room. Due to the angle and the mirror being directly in front of the large gap between the window and the curtain, he had a full view of me undressing.
In fact, I sat on the bed after and was mortified to see the view of the gap allowed a perfect view of him despite the drapes being closed to the end of the window.
I was truly shaken up by this but didn’t want to frighten my daughter or ruin her night she was so excited to get started. I picked up the entire curtain and placed it on the windowsill, which was still difficult to hide the gap from allowing viewing of the room. We went downstairs and there was a crowd at the front desk. I spent the entire show that night unable to get my mind off what happened and it has been on mind mind since.
The next morning, Friday, I spoke to the 2 men at the front desk and told them what happened. I could not understand how this happened, how the mirror goes to the end of the wall and the drapes do not cover, I am sure this has been going on for a long time and communicated this all to them. I told them the mirror needs to blocked off and the drapes are not designed right to allow privacy in the room. They both assured me the manager would contact me as soon as he came back from the sister property within the hour.
Unfortunately, I never heard from anyone. I stopped at the front desk and had to repeat my story at least 2 times a day, in the next few days. Each time I was reassured the manager would be contacting me within the hour. The next day Friday, the office next store went dark at night but I could always see the blue light of the man’s computer in the mirror and when sitting on my bed I had to constantly get up and move the drapes to the windowsill and fix them every time they fell.
After being assured every time at the front desk the manager was going to contact me and never hearing. I asked to fill out an incident report with security. The security guard, to his credit, expressed disbelief that the manager ignored my numerous complaints.
Since arriving home it is still on my mind. I contacted the police to see what could be done and was told that unless I had proof I was being recorded there was not much that could be done. This has been on my mind constantly, what if I was being recorded. What if my 14 year old had been the one recorded. What about another mother’s daughter who will stay in that room next or stayed there before. This design defect needs to be repaired immediately. In every room on every floor.
Please respond to this very serious concern immediately and contact me to discuss the above situation as soon as possible.
