Alexa sent a message to David Simon Chairman and CEO, Simon Property Group, Inc. – email address that said:
I sent the email below to my local Simon mall. I'm the manager of a store in the Coral Square Simon mall.
Hello,
Just an idea, college campuses utilize email blast or text blasts to keep us all updated in emergency situations like we experienced this morning. We were given many mixed messages (1. Lockdown, stay in your store 2. Evacuate to the parking lot; mall closed. Call back in 2 hours. 3. Your side of the mall is open, you guys should be open) and we did what was in the best interest for our team's safety. Utilizing a mass communication would help keep us informed and aligned; even if it's a short small message, any communication would have helped today.
I hope this message finds you well and you had a happy thanksgiving and a successful Black Friday.
Sincerely,
Alexa
The article below explains what happened today. My two assistant managers on duty during this event were in fear for their lives hiding in our backroom. There was little/no communication from security or police on sight and if there was it was not accurate. Mass communication could have really helped today for all stores and guests who were panicked. High schools utilize this tool, as well.
