I use to work for a very Large Apartment Management Company. Actually the Largest Property Management Company in the world. Going Beyond Expectations for our Residents was something that the company was pushing for the last two years and my property has been one of the most improved properties since I took over it over a year ago. California passed the law making October Hindu Awareness Month for 2017 and the Diwali Festival, which is a Celebration of Lights is a well known traditional Festival that schools, cities and communities celebrate, it was something that Park Kiely was going to do as well since about 80% of the 948 apartments at Park Kiely, have a Hindu family members. The rest of the community would of loved to just experience a Festival of Lights.
Upper management caught wind of the Diwali Festival and since it was going to cut into the Haunted House Event Budget that they preferred over the unknown Event, they deemed the Diwali Festival as an inappropriate event and said it had to be cancelled right away, when I asked, why? They said it violated fair housing and they fired me for even planning an event like that for all the residents, even though it was at the request of the residents. Fair housing is to protect people from exclusion, the Diwali Festival invited every resident, I made it very clear that myself and my family have never been to one and we are looking forward to enjoy this one with other families who are in the same situation as mine. I also invited other residents to help if they wanted, since a handful of residents expressed interest in helping in anyway.
This is a big company walking over the culture of others and firing all those who have a voice. What are my options and what can I do? I have a family of 5, who I am the sole provider of and the last few weeks have been so stressful and I have no where to turn now. The Residents have all talked to management, but they dont seem to care and they never celebrated the Festival of Lights.
