steve ilston sent a message to Kazuo Hirai President and CEO, Sony Corporation email address that said:
I would like to know what you think about this.
I bought a Sony PMW-400 just under 3 years ago,(about £15,000)So it is just under 1 year out of its 2 year warranty. In the process of changing formats from SXS to SD card and bit rate it crashed. I assumed this meant sending it back to CVP and having the base software re-installed. Apparently i was wrong, big time !
They are offering to replace the mother board for a total bill of £4,648.03p including VAT !
As professional camera buyers do we have any rights to expect our equipment to continue working beyond the 2 year warranty ?
I got 10 years each out of my last 2 cameras, Sony DVCam 450 and a Beta SP camera.
Please let me know your thoughts and advice. Steve Ilston of SHootEdit ltd.
P.S. It goes without saying, my camera is very well looked after, never been dropped, always wears its jacket when outside and has never been used by anyone else ! (Based in the UK)
