I'm contacting your company in regards to a recent incident at one of your Taco Bell/ Pizza Hut locations that involved 2nd degree burns to my hand. I drove to taco bell to pick up some food for my children and myself yesterday at your Batavia, IL location. At the drive through window I placed an order for a pizza and bread stick combo, along with a taco combo and extra tacos. When I arrived home with the food about ten minutes later I reached in the food bag to remove the bread stick box and the dipping sauce container fell into my hand pouring out scalding hot sauce. The dipping sauce burned my right hand leaving two of my fingers swollen red later resulting in a large blister on top of my pinky finger from a second degree burns. The sauce was heated to such an extreme temperature that the container was deformed and melted. The container did not retain its lid due to this deformation which is the reason why it just fell off. I don't know what Taco Bells procedure is for warming this type of sauce but it was definitely over heated. Due to the fact that the bread sticks were very stale I'm guessing that someone probably attempted to reheat the food using a microwave for an uncontrolled amount of time. This food was for my three year old son. If it was my son that had this sauce spilled all over him it could have been a lot worse. It could have caused major burns to him due to the fact that children's skin is more sensitive to heat. After doing a little research I have discovered that this is not the first time this has happened at one of your stores. In fact it was the same scenario where a dipping sauce container fell out of the box burning a women's lap. The design of the sauce cup being held in to the bread stick box is very poor. Yes the cup maybe labeled, âcaution may be hot but how much does that help when the cups fall out not allowing time to read this statement. That wouldn't help much anyways since the lids do not stay on! Taco Bell needs to pay attention to incidents like this and correct the problem so no one is burned again. Workers need to be properly trained to prevent the overheating of such sauce. If it was my child that was burned I would be taking further action! I have taken photos of the burns that I have received along with a photo of the deformed and overheated sauce cup. I also have the original sales receipt from my visit. I am going to attempt to make contact with the franchisee that owns this property also. I would like a follow up from your company on how this will be further prevented.
