Dear Mr. Rodney McCullen,
I am writing this in hopes that a good businessman like you would
listen to the insight of one of your valued employees and this could benefit
the company. The problem is that I'm not feeling very valued lately. I hear it
in words but not in actions.
You see corporate keeps taking things away from us.
1] First taken away was my health insurance. I was told it was decided in July
that if I averaged 24(?) hours a week I would qualify. But no one told us this until
the end of the yr. when it was too late. Valued? I do appreciate the good and
inexpensive insurance when it was avilable to me.
2] Also taken was the 20% off around holidays. I already spend much more than
my paycheck at Kroger.
3] Then taken away were the surveys which saved us money on gas. Valued?
4] Several beloved items discontinued. (small peas, .99 greeting cards, PS columbian
decaf. Best decaf!! and more) So dissapointing
5] Corporate also took away premium pay between 6am-7am. Valued?
It leaves us wondering what else is to be taken from us.
And now corporate is putting much pressure on me with very unrealistic
expectations. I am supposed to be able to condition all of grocery and frozen in
4 hours. One person. Unless most of the store is in good condition that is not possible
for one person. I have been a conditioner at Kroger for 5 1/2years and I take much
pride in doing an excellant job and constantly challenge my speed. So a Mngr. told
me a few months ago that I was expected to condition 1/2 an aisle per half hour.
I can easily exceed that and it is a reasonable and realistic expectation.
I am very hard working, prompt, concientious, very detail oriented and love
greeting every available customer. I don't keep my phone on me while working =wasting company time.I even made a tool to bring forward the products in the back bottom shelves. Other conditioners don't bother.
I'm not sure if you consider all that my job entails
1] Move 2 products forward to make neat also
2] Place them in correct space
3] Take go-backs off shelves
4] Escort customers to wanted items, walking and talking
5] Occasional customer spill clean up
6] Take all damaged goods off shelves and put away
7] Face forward labels & right side up
8] Tape labels back on when needed
9] Remember to condition end caps
10] Pull forward backstock when only 1-2 available and discard boxes
My job used to be more enjoyable & fulfilling without much job politics. It is
one of the highest rated stores (408) and has a good Store Mngr. These days not
nearly as enjoyable. Also I never know what crazy schedule I will have. I agreed
years ago that I could work at 6am. Lately I was given choices of jobs that my back
wouldn't handle or I could come in at 5am. I agreed to 5am. Two weeks later I was
on the schedule for 4am. A few weeks ago I asked off for one day and 2 others that
are alresdy not available days for me. The next week I wasn't on the schedule at all!
I like to think of the little old lady and making items easily visible and accessable
for her. The latest is that the night crew (5-6 people) condition all of grocery leaving
me with conditioning frozen. I have mostly conditioned grocery. At least it's
cool but not many people like to work frozen. Valued? The pay isn't nearly as good
as your competitors but I'd like to continue to enjoy my job. Oh, and I can't believe what
a miniscule amount (10.75 p hr.) that I am earning especially after learning how
much you get paid. Competitors hire at $15 p.hr. I'm sure that you can agree that we
should be earning more. Instead the company puts money into taking down a perfectly
good blue sign to replace with a white one. Valued?
I hope that you will take these things into consideration when setting expectations.
I'm certain that you know that happy employees create happier and more customers which equates to increased sales. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Frustratedly,
Teresa Burt
