Curtis Watson sent a message to Rodney McMullen that said:
Early this year my brother E. Lewis Watson slipped on some ice and fail and broke his right arm (the Humerus bone between the shoulder and elbow). He is 64 years of age, and while seeking emergency treatment for this broken bone injury -- he discovered he had no medical insurance. This was the case because of an oversight on his wife's medical insurance policy. As a result, the Emergency Professionals did not provide him with remedial treatment or set his broken bone. They just gave him a Sling and sent him on his way.
My brother recently, finally had orthopedic surgery on his broken arm. The doctor had to re-break his arm because time-lapsed healing had occurred, and the broken bone had not been set properly. He is going to have major medical bills pertaining to this surgery and emergency room visit.
He is in a desperate financial situation that is exacerbated by the coronavirus (covid-19) pandemic economic shutdown, his age, his insurance coverage issues, his inability to work, his inability to pay the rent for his office, and miscellaneous life subsistence overhead. It is to say the least, that he is stressed out in a big way, and he may lose his prime office location in Columbus, Ohio. Additionally, he will lose his client base and business.
We come from a very humble family background from the projects in Dayton, Ohio. Both of our parents were very hard working, but never seemed to have much money for our family of six. We never went hungry but did not have the extra necessities like a family doctor or regular doctor checkups or dental care.
At this point, my brother is a 1-man Law office business where he wears all the hats and does all the work. Most of the work that he has done has been at a discounted rate, or for free for people in poverty need of legal help. This work has included immediate and extended family members. Obviously, his approach is not the most profitable approach to managing a business.
The gogundme (GFM) funds are needed as soon as possible, and will go a long way towards saving my brother's livelihood and life and marriage. He cannot work currently because it is his right arm and hand that are unusable for at least 8 weeks. Furthermore, the courts have been in shutdown mode due to the coronavirus pandemic. In the case law area that he practices, no cases are being processed or adjudicated presently. As you can see, this is a very urgent situation my brother finds himself in presently. This fundraiser is going to be a surprise to him after it successfully raises funds to help him make it through this difficult period in his life. I do not want to get his hopes up high if this fundraiser does not work out.
