College Funding Request Letter

Dear Chairman Brian C. Cornell,

Hello, my name is Mey Mey, a Chinese and Cambodian Asian American who loves to learn and explore new and unique things in the world. Currently, I am a senior attending The Mojave High School, the lowest income and poor achieving school with less than 50% graduation rates and below average test scores. Despite my hardships and school reputation, I continue to work hard and do everything with excellence for success and nothing less! To become a well rounded student and a wise and intelligent individual, always learning and improving for the better. I excel academically and remain active in my home, school, and community. I help/tutor low achieving/ELL students and participating in clubs and organizations such as the Mojave Medical Academy, National Honor Society, Key Club, Science Olympiad, Asian American Pacific Islander, Student Council, Mentoring Program, etc.

I am writing this letter to formally appeal to you about financial assistance in achieving my college education. Currently, I do not have the funds to attend college and I do not want to obtain student loans or be in debt, because I’m already poor enough. I applied for grants and scholarships (and will continue to do so) as well as financial aid from my college and FAFSA, but still haven’t gotten any money from them. Thus, I am requesting you to please kindly help me through this difficult time with any donations, so I can attend college/university.

I need assistance for my college expenses because I am a hardworking individual who comes from a low-income family struggling with financial, health, and family issues, but is eager to learn and achieve my goals and dreams, helping my family and I have a better life and future. Currently, I am living with family members under federal assistance (social security/medicaid/free-reduced lunch). My father passed away last year and my mother, siblings, and relatives are currently living in Asia. We’re experiencing financial, family, medical, mental/emotional issues/struggles, especially after my father’s death everything became difficult and complicated. In order to achieve the American Dream and have a better life and future than they did, my parents sent my brother and I here to America to study and acquire higher education. My parents sacrificed so much for the benefit of their children. I love my family very much, they mean the world to me. Im grateful for everything they have done for me and want to return the unconditional love, care, and support they gave me. I also want to create a non-profit organization and visit my hometown to help those in need financially, medically, and mentally/emotionally, continuing my father’s legacy of kindness and goodwill.

My family, school, background, community and experiences makes up who I am today and the world I come from. I want to be able to support my loved ones/others, change peopls lives, make a difference, leave a legacy, and have a better/brighter future. To do what I love (become doctor) and have a nice happy little family living comfortably and stably. Education is very important to me because it means so much to me, and my family and I’s life and future. Knowledge is power. My family does not have money to send me to college nor help me financially for school, I have to find ways/sources (grants/scholarship/work/FAFSA/etc) to afford college and continue achieving higher education. Also, since our father left this world, and our mother is unemployed (widow, residing in Asia, and doesn’t speak English), I will be the head of the household, responsible for our family’s health and overall well being. Working hard to keep it healthy, growing, and prosperous, along with teaching them about knowledge, values, character, life lessons, the real world, etc. My family depends on me, so I must serve and lead them well in order to live a good life and be a role model for my siblings as I am the backbone and oldest (of 6) in my family. Thus, any contribution will help me achieve my goals because it will help me complete my dreams and purpose in life, without financial burden limiting my opportunity and thrive for success in the future.

Being the first generation in my family to attend college in the US, a college degree will definitely impact my life and future significantly. A higher education will enable me to obtain a stable career and have a better future for myself and my family. It'll help me achieve my dream career as a doctor, living a better life, having a stable career, and living comfortably, peacefully, and happily with necessary means, without the financial burden or limited opportunities. It'€™ll enable me to do what I love and contribute to society, experience/afford new things for myself and my family, improving people's lives/my own, and live life to the fullest, without limits. My family is the most important thing in my life because they sacrificed so much for me and for the betterment of our lives. Without them I don't know how things would have been or how we would turn out to be. I am very appreciative for my family, they are my everything.

I would be more than happy to discuss any further information (amount/college expense, personal/professional/educational/financial background, etc). If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to contact

Thank you so much for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you soon! :]

Sincerely,
Mey Mey
