Carol B Gardner sent a message to Daniel P. Amos – Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Aflac Incorporated – Email Address that said:
Mr. Amos, I am contacting you in regards to a claim I filed, which was denied. I placed myself into a 30 day alcohol rehab center - under the care of a physician - and was then kept out of work an additional month. The dates of 5/15/16 - 7/18/16. Alcoholism is defined as a medical condition of genetic origin - as is diabetes, it is also recognized by the Americans with Disability Act as a medical condition. I do not understand how AFLAC can deny this claim. Alcoholism is not a mental illness, and no where in your policy is it stated as an exclusion. While exclusions as specifically stated for injury sustained while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, the medical condition is not. Please examine this situation carefully as this denial of claim is clearly discrimination
