Gary sent a message to Matthew S. Levatich – President and Chief Executive Officer of Harley-Davidson, Inc. – Email Address that said:
Mr. Levatich. I own a 2010 Ultra Classic. I am very disappointed in this product and Harley Davidson clearly isn't concerned. This motorcycle is a hazard and HD knows the problem. Throttle by wire is a disaster and I can't ride this bike any longer because it will get me killed. TBW has gotten people killed as the actuator pins disconnect and send a message to the computer to shut off the throttle (code 1511) to limp mode. It has nearly gotten me hurt twice (once at 70 MPH on the interstate in traffic) and has been an ongoing issue since I bought the bike. Bumpus HD in Memphis says they know its a problem but there was never a recall. They tried to fix it last year and it has shut down twice this week. I reset the codes but it isn't reliable.
My question is why does HD not recall something that was a mistake on your part yet you seem to be okay with it causing accidents? Yo've known about this since TBW came out in 2008.
Ive talked to the dealer and to your company and no one is willing to accept responsibility or provide advice other than it's my problem. Your company should be embarrassed to not stand behind your products any better than this.
Regards,
Gary
