Darlene sent a message to Doug McMillon – President and Chief Executive Officer of Walmart Stores, Inc. – Email Address that said:
Mr McMillan-as an associate of 30+years I have seen many changes come and go in our company. I am really beginning to question some of our merchandising changes that have come along in the last few years. I am in apparel and have always loved my job! But, some of our core guidelines are taking some wrong turns. ( these are just my opinions).
1- Table merchandising- this is one of the highest maintenance ideas that has taken place, for our high volume stores .
2-one item at a price is not always the best way to merchandise. Focal and basic 4ways should be the racks to mix items that co-ordinate. Selling more than one garment is always a good thing, right? Not all women know how to "match" an outfit.
3-The guide need to be a "guide", not a bible. Our stores are so different from each other and we can't all do the exact thing (according to the picture). Shipments do not all come in at the pace.
4-walls should never be left practically empty, because we do not have the exact product in the photos! Selling nothing is never better, than selling something.
Our market managers need to trust their Dept. Managers the make some merchandising decisions. I feel very incompetent as of late. After all my years ,at my store ,I have to question every move I make. Our cheer is " who's Walmart is it" doesn't really apply anymore. Our upper manage has lost touch with all the associates, that work hard everyday, to continue, to keep our stores on top. I am dedicated, I am a stock holder and proud associate. I want Walmart to succeed as much as you do. Thank you for listening.
