Matthew sent a message to Robert E. Sanchez Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Ryder System, Inc. Email Address that said:
Mr. Sanchez, I hope this gets to you. My name is Matthew, I live in Crawfordville, Ga. Small town for work so I have to travel. I just got hired to one of your Ryder outfits in Augusta, Ga. It was daycab work from Woodford Plywood off of Gordon Hwy. The person who hired me was Adrian Staley. Went down on a Friday the 26th day of February and did all the orientation. Was told to come in on the 29th of February to start. When I got there, Adrian told me that he was not gonna be there until Wednesday, so I had to work a log book till he could get me going on the peoples net. Right off the bat, in my inspection of the truck, I noticed that the back window was busted. So I called Adrian that I wasn't going to drive it due to the exhaust fumes coming in. Was told he would get it fixed, but for now to put a piece of cardboard over it with tape. Witch I had to go buy myself. Done that ran the truck as is. Finally Adrian came on a Wednesday and tried to get me logged in, don't know what the problem was. But he was off for vacation Thursday, and Friday. So was basically own my own here, whether it was right or not. Well, nothing happened to get anything right with it, just ran it as I could. Well, yesterday, I was pulled over and got a seatbelt violation, Not arguing about it, I was caught. So was told not to get in the truck until safety looked it over, was fired, without them calling me and letting me plea my side. Was just pulling out from a store from purchasing a cold drink, and they got me. Being fired so easy just didn't sit with me cause I have a lot of years ina semi. traveled all over the country, haven't had anything on my record in years, no wrecks, period. 25 years, that's pretty good I would say, but getting to the point, I feel like I got the raw end of the deal here. Was not trained properly on the peoples net, truck was in a bad way to start off with, where was safety on that? Then not even being to defend myself before a decision was made is pretty. I know I'm the little guy and you are not interested in my little problems, I just wished you would let me know what you think. Sorry if it means nothing to you, but just thought you ought to know, was looking forward to being home with my wife instead of being gone all the time again. Not much daycab work around here, now that Ya'll fired me so quick, I can't even look around at Ryder to see if there's anything else out there. I hope I didn't waist your time, truly sorry for the ticket I got, just happened so fast. We are human.. If there's nothing that can come of this, I apologize for bothering you, I have got to get back to looking for a new job before I loose everything I have. Sincerely, Matthew...
