I am writing as a result of the article in today\'s San Jose Mercury- News about the possibility that PG&E may not go forward with extending the life of the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant.
For many reasons, and as a retired chemist, I would strongly encourage PG&E to do its best to extend the operation of the Diablo Canyon power plant. It is unfortunate that there are so many "stupid" oppositions to the use of nuclear energy as a source of electricity for this country. Even considering solar, there is no greener source of power. Technology is at a level at this stage that it cannot logically be argued that nuclear is an unsafe source for electricity.
I would worry about any major power plant in California due to seismic activity here, but I\'m sure that that concern can be planned for.
