Ockert Malan sent a message to Michael OLeary that said:
I am a student backpacking through Europe:
To fly my guitar from Basel to London I made the following bookings:
Reservation VKBGWC 34E (19E + 15E hold luggage) on 2015-07-07
GNJ7RT for 9E on 2015-09-15 as Extra Seat for my guitar.
When I checked in at Basel they forced me to purchase another seat. If I did not pay I would have lost my guitar or missed my flight. I later saw in my email that they booked a completely new extra seat!
DWI1YD 141E
I therefore request that this be refunded.
Reasons:
1 - I paid fair cartage for myself and the guitar
2 - I read the rules, mandatory same flight for virtual seat not mentioned at all for musical instruments (the word same only appears in relation to pooled baggage at https://www.ryanair.com/en/terms-and-conditions/regulations-checkedbaggage/ )
3 - I checked with Ryanair if I can use another flight
4 - Ryanair confirmed everything in order when I linked the seat. (Sorting it out then would have costed me maybe 10E extra not 141E)
5 - Ryanair confirmed that my guitar was paid for when online during the check-in process and I did request a refund at the time
