Dear Marty, I\'m currently residing in an acute care facility located in Palm Springs, CA. Coincidentally, my current roommate here just happens to be your father, Manny Lott. I realize you don’t know me, which is why I’d like to take a moment to tell you a little about myself and why I\'m contacting you (to hopefully avoid coming off as random). My name is Ali and I\'m a 22 year old and I’m a college student majoring in microbiology and aspire to go to medical school. My ultimate career goal is to become a heart surgeon. I know you\'re probably wondering: why is guy like me in a nursing home? And it’s because I\'m rehabilitating from a serious injury that I previously had.

When I first arrived here I had a room to myself. But the next day a nurse brought in a man who I’d now be sharing the room with. She said “This is your new roommate” to which I responded to him “Hi, I’m Ali!” He told me he was recovering from a few ribs he had broken from slipping in the shower. Initially our conversations were limited, but I was understanding as to why. However, earlier today Manny and I were conversing to get to know each other better and he told me about you and your company, Sanmar; how it started out as a college project working from you parents’ basement and became what it is today. After hearing Manny’s narrative and browsing the Sanmar website myself I was enlightened; learning about how you started a business, turned it into a successful company, and the process you had to go through to get there; this was something I resonated with. It reminded me that persistence and the right mind set are necessary to persevere in tedious and/or difficult situations.

I myself am in a wheelchair and have beaten many odds that are typically associated with the disabled community. The last 5 weeks I have stayed in both the hospital as well as my current location. During the entirety of these 5 weeks I have remained mostly indoors due to a pressure sore caused by sitting wheelchair for excessive amounts of time. I had only been outside 2 times this whole month and have been confined to absolute bed rest for the remainder of my duration. Another aspect is that it is uncertain how much longer I will have to stay. I’m generally a positive person, but due to my present circumstances I have been more susceptible to becoming depressed. The point I want to convey by writing this is that meeting your dad, hearing his life stories and his anecdotes of your achievements have excited, and even motivated, me to rediscover that positivity I had lost sight of. Thank you! And I hope this email reaches you well.

Sincerely,

Ali Qazi
