So as I am reading the distress cry of Macy's in the Wall Street Journal this morning and various financial papers, I reflect on why I, as a consummate shopper with a lot of discretionary can NOT stand shopping at Macy's. I am a relic of Bullocks, ex-buyer and manager....remembering the great days of retail. The store was ALWAYS meticulously merchandised, everything appealing to the eye. Sales people would do stock keeping, be attentive to customers, know the stock in surrounding departments, suggest other items to buy, and when you bought something, you knew the VALUE of what you were buying.
Move forward to Macys of today. Stock looks like hell, floors are disorganized and messy, no stock keeping or help, crappy salespeople always on their cell phones..............and WHAT are you paying for this item??? Have a coupon?? Thursday one-day sale?? Try to find help to explain what something REALLY costs!!!
OMG..............go to Nordstroms!! Can't deal with Macys anymore. And then next to the Designer Brands are all the junky , fake-priced private label stuff in the hundreds of units per style, wow, how "special"...!!!!
Hard to believe you and I were trained at the same store, may it rest in peace!!! I spend a FORTUNE on clothes and accessories every year.......sadly, you get none of these dollars. Macys used to send me gift baskets back in the day for the dollars I spent there.
When I worked for Bullocks, I took such pride in my product, my floor, my customers.................there is no such thing anymore at Macys.
Fix it and maybe you will find your lost customer, right now I am shopping at Nordstoms.
