Cheryl,
Thank you for the information provided in the course of our conversation regarding renewal of both our homeowner's and auto policy with The Hartford through an AARP program. What follows is not directed at you personally but at The Hartford and AARP as corporate entities, especially the latter which is presumed to be looking out for the benefit of its members, many of whom are retired and possibly on fixed incomes.
Please be advised that we will not be renewing either policy and are quite unpleasantly surprised at the pricing difference when comparing virtually identical competitor's policies to the Hartford's. Between the two policies the premium difference was almost $1800.00 annually!!
Staggering, especially considering that 1) it is an AARP endorsed policy which should imply some financial consideration, 2) we have purchased home and auto insurance from the Hartford for over 30 years and 3) within those 30 years there has never been a homeowner's claim against the policy!
It makes me wonder how much we have overpaid over those thirty years and how much we could have saved had we priced shopped rather than assuming that we were getting a competitive rate.
