The Port Talbot Steelworks in South Wales, UK, is a very good steelworks, producing high quality steel.
The problem for Tata Steelworks is that the cost of production per Tonne of Steel is too high and the payment expectations of the Pension Scheme are too high.
The Retirement Age needs to be raised to 70 years and the employee contributions need to be doubled and the employer contributions reduced by 50%. There should be no Lump Sum Payments. Final Pension Payments should be based on the years of working and a maximum 50% of Final Salaries over 40 years service. Pro Rata for reduced sewrvice.
