To Whom It May Concern:
My name is Robert and I am the Secretary of the Newtown Cultural Arts Commission (NCAC) in Newtown, CT. In the wake of the devastating events in Sandy Hook on December 14th of 2012, we created the "HealingNewtown Through The Power of the Artsâ program (arts space, classes, workshop, performances, art music therapy, events). HealingNewtown is run by the Town of Newtown through the NCAC in association with the CT Office of the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Through the HealingNewtown Program and other projects, The Newtown Cultural Arts Commission is dedicated to providing concerts, events, performances, workshops and classes geared toward helping the community continue to move past this event in a healthy, healing manner. We have received donations of musical equipment, PA, lighting, staging from companies such as Sennheiser, Harmon/JBL, Bose, Guitar Center, Fender, I DJ Now. On behalf of the Newtown School District we also arranged for donations of percussion equipment, music software, music lab equipment from companies such as Emu (Creative), Remo, OnStage, D+M, Spectrasonics and others. The equipment we have received is being used by the town for events and benefit concerts and also by the Newtown School District for their music activities. The National Endowment of the Arts (NEA) also gave us a grant to hire a director to run our programs.
We are hoping that Ampeg would be able to donate a pro series bass a Heritage Series Bass Amp, a combo/portable bass amp, and some pedals to our community.
We have received the following accolades:
Governor's 2013 Arts Award: âGovernor Dannel P Malloy, on behalf of the people of the State of Connecticut, recognizes The Newtown Cultural Arts Commission / HealingNewtown for providing extraordinary service to the People of Newtown.â
National Endowment For the Arts: âThe National Endowment for the Arts is honored to support the healing power of the arts at the HealingNewtown Art Space,â NEA Acting Chairman Joan Shigekawa said. âWe turn to the arts when faced with tragedy to find solace and emotional expression. The volunteer work done to date at the arts center has been remarkable. The NEA is proud to build on that work to secure the art centerâs programs and services as the community and the nation continue to heal.â
Senator Blumenthal: âAs the Newtown community continues to heal and mend, this grant will support its courage and strength,â said Senator Blumenthal. âHealingNewtown has helped enable this extraordinary communityâs compassion and courage, which have inspired and uplifted the world. The arts can aid healing and recovery from tragedy and trauma activity supported by this grant.â
Representative Etsy: For the people of Newtown, who have been through so much, the services of HealingNewtown are critically important,â said Representative Esty. âHealingNewtown has done incredible work, through volunteer efforts, bringing the community together and cataloguing artwork that represents tangible examples of just how much the people of Newtown have touched and inspired people around the world â people who have reached out with love and compassion in this time of grief. I applaud the NEA for supporting the work of HealingNewtown to provide creative outlets for grief and to help bring about healing in this courageous and inspirational town.â
Newtown First Selectman Pat Llodra: âThe HealingNewtown art space has had a positive impact on our community and continues to provide programs that support resiliency and our path forward. We are grateful for that expertise and commitment to our local arts efforts.â
Thank you in advance for your support!
