Hwang Bo Kyung, 49, has replaced Yang Min-suk, who resigned from the position on June 14 after his brother, Yang Hyun-suk, who founded the company in 1996, decided to step down following the controversy involving iKON’s leader B.I.
In a company filing on June 20, YG Entertainment said Hwang Bo Kyung entered the company in March 2001 as managing director. She now owns 4,000 shares of stock of YG Entertainment, representing 0.02 percent of total company stocks.
YG Entertainment produces and markets music recording/publishing, record manufacturing/sales, artist management, concert production, and new artist discovering/training. YG is an abbreviation for "Yang Goon", a nickname given to the Executive Director Yang Hyun-suk.
Today, YG Entertainment is known as one of the "big three" record companies in South Korea, along with S.M. Entertainment and JYP Entertainment, for their large market share. Official contents by YG Entertainment and its artists have cumulatively garnered more than 5 billion views and are subscribed by more than 12 million users on YouTube, making them the most viewed and most subscribed artists and entertainment agency in Asia-Pacific.
