James (Jim) Cracchiolo has been Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Ameriprise Financial and its predecessor company since 2000. Cracchiolo has more than 35 years of experience in financial services. He led Ameriprise through one of the largest spin-offs in U.S. history to its position today as a leading diversified financial services firm focused on wealth management, asset management and insurance.
Prior to his current role, Cracchiolo held a number of senior executive positions at American Express, the company’s former parent. He was Group President of American Express Global Financial Services from 2000-2005, which included American Express Financial Advisors, American Express Bank, and Travel Related Services (TRS) International. During the 1990s, Cracchiolo was President and Chief Executive Officer TRS International; Senior Vice President of TRS Quality, Global Reengineering; President of Global Network Services; and Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Shearson Lehman Brothers.
Cracchiolo serves as a member of the Business Roundtable, the Financial Services Roundtable Board of Directors, the Minnesota Business Partnership and the American Council of Life Insurers. He is also a member of the Board of Advisors for the March of Dimes.
Cracchiolo graduated from New York University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and economics in 1980 and received an MBA from New York University Stern School of Business in 1985. He is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in New York State and holds FINRA Series 7 and Series 24 registrations.
