Jeffrey W. Martin is chairman and chief executive officer of Sempra Energy.
Martin has served as Sempra Energy’s chief executive officer since May 2018 and, as chairman, since December 2018.
Previously, Martin was executive vice president and chief financial officer for Sempra Energy from 2017 to 2018. Prior to that, from 2014 through 2016, he served as chief executive officer of San Diego Gas & Electric, one of Sempra Energy's regulated California utilities.
From 2010 through 2013, Martin was president and chief executive officer of Sempra U.S. Gas & Power and Sempra Generation, the predecessor companies of Sempra Energy's renewable energy and midstream businesses. Martin also was previously vice president of investor relations of Sempra Energy. He first joined Sempra Energy in 2004 as a principal working in Sempra Energy's mergers and acquisitions group.
Before joining Sempra Energy, Martin was chief financial officer of NewEnergy, Inc. Also, he formerly served as corporate counsel at UniSource Energy Corporation and was an attorney at the law firm of Snell & Wilmer, LLP, where his transactional practice focused on corporate and commercial finance and real estate.
Martin currently serves on the board of directors of Oncor Electric Delivery Company LLC. He also is on the Business Roundtable and the board of trustees of the University of San Diego, in addition to being a member of the Wall Street Journal CEO Council. Martin recently served on the boards of directors of the Edison Electric Institute, California Chamber of Commerce and National Association of Manufacturers.
Martin holds a bachelor’s degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point, a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Texas, El Paso, and a law degree from the University of Miami.
Sempra Energy is an American natural gas utilities holding company based in San Diego, California. It divides its interests into two broad categories: Sempra Utilities, including Pacific Enterprises/Southern California Gas Company and San Diego Gas Electric; and Sempra Global, a holding company for businesses not subject to California utilities regulation, chiefly Sempra International and Sempra US Gas Power.[1][2]
For 2014, Sempra Energy reported $11 billion in revenue and 17,000 employees, serving more than 32 million customers worldwide. It is the largest natural gas utility in the United States in terms of coverage area and population served, and is a major force in international natural gas markets.
